  • Enrolled or enrolling in a full-time Master’s or Doctoral program at a Canadian higher institution with CGS shares.
  • Applying for admission within the deadline of an eligible graduate program.
  • No previous CGS scholarship holder.
  • First-class leverage in the last two years of study.
  • Submission of only one scholarship or fellowship application per academic year to NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC.

Eligible Programs for Canada Graduate Scholarship

Candidates must enroll in specific graduate degree programs at reputable Canadian higher institutions to qualify for the Canada Graduate Master’s scholarship program. Joint Programs (such as DVM/Ph.D., MD/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D., JD/MA, MBA/Ph.D., and MA/MBA) and clinically oriented programs are eligible. The selected programs must incorporate a research element enabling candidates to work on a thesis, dissertation, clinical trial, research project, or scholarly publication.

To apply for the Canadian Graduate Scholarship Program, visit the official Research Portal of the Government of Canada. Click on “create applications” and select the Canada Graduate Scholarship program as your funding opportunity. Provide a title for your application reflecting your research topic and select your research field. If your research field is health, you’ll need a CIHR personal identification number (PIN). Choose your preferred institution and degree program. Ensure you enter the number of months you’ll complete by December 31st of the application year. Upload your documents in the required format, keeping in mind that password-protected documents won’t be accepted. Include three Reference Assessments with your application. Note that changes are not accepted after submission, and late or incomplete applications won’t be considered.

Candidates for the Canada Graduate Scholarship are evaluated based on several factors, including their academic records, research skills, critical thinking ability, past work experience or academic training in their chosen research field, personal characteristics, leadership experience, and interpretation skills. These criteria collectively determine the scholarship recipients.

The deadline for online applications for the Canadian Graduate Scholarship Program is January 1, 2024. To ensure your application is considered, it must be submitted before this date.
